About Me

About Danielle’s Journey to Homesteading
Hello, my name is Danielle and welcome to my blog.
I was born in Utah, but I spent the first 18 years of my life moving around the western portion of the United States. I am the oldest of 11 children and currently have 2 children of my own with plans to grow our family more. I started cooking when I was 2 years old, my mom taught me and my twin sister how to scramble our own eggs. I always remember loving to be an independent kid and I loved to make and eat delicious food. With having lots of siblings it was more economically friendly for my mom to make homemade meals for us. As I was growing up part of our chores was making a meal for the family once a week. I remember I loved to help my mom plan and make meals for my family. It brings me lots of joy when people around me love the food that I make.
I traveled a lot in my early twenties. Central and South America is where I spent a lot of my time. It was there where I learned to love cultural foods. I am a dancer, my favorite forms of dance are salsa, bachata, burlesque, and pole dancing. I met my now husband on a performing Salsa team in 2022. We instantly connected over our love of dance and delicious healthy foods. Over these last several years I have loved learning how to make foods from his home country of Guatemala.
The recipes you will find here will be a combination of American and Latin American cooking. I am a lover of knowledge and really enjoy the process of learning new skills. I’m so glad you’re here and I can’t wait to share this journey with you.
Thankyou for your interest in my recipes, I hope to see you back here frequently.

We bought our home back in 2021. It is a ranch-style 4 bedroom 2 bathroom home with a 0.18 acre “lot” aka backyard. In other words, I live in a regular smegular home in a regular smegular neighborhood. Over the last 4 years we have worked hard to make our land work for us. What used to exist here was weeds and a pathetic excuse for dirt. We have transformed the soil to make it rich to have better plants. We’ve added spaces to host big family gatherings and built our chickens a big beautiful palace to live in.
From starting a garden, raising chickens, and learning how to cook with and preserve the foods we grow, this blog is a story with ongoing chapters. We have goals of buying bigger land, having more animals, and being even more self sufficient.
Here you will not only find yummy recipes, you’ll find unique sewing activities and learn more about our ongoing journey of debt freedom. I hope we can learn together here and cultivate a beautiful community where we can inspire each other to be better.
So, whether you’re an experienced homesteader, an aspiring green thumb, or simply curious about this way of life, I invite you to join me on this journey. Let’s learn, grow, and thrive together in our pursuit of a more grounded and gratifying existence.
Welcome to my homesteading journey – where every day is an opportunity to cultivate happiness from the ground up. I’m so glad you’re here.
